ANY MATTERS ARISING
There were no matters arising
Season 2016 began as all others before it, with the Annual General Meeting, which was followed by the annual friendly between Renfrewshire and Dunbartonshire, which was played at Inverclyde Indoor. This resulted in a win for the Renfrewshire Bowling Association.
The first piece of business is preparing the county teams for another tilt at the Andrew Hamilton Trophy. Again the emphasis was put on youth with more than 10 players from the under 25 team were again selected to play for the county teams.
The West team won 5 games out of 7 and qualified in 2nd place on shots and played Bon Accord in the quarterfinals winning with the last bowl of the game. In the semi finals, the West team were narrowly beaten by Dumfriesshire at Houldsworth. This is 2 years on a row the West team have reached the semi final stages and hopefully this year they can go a step further.
The South team won 3 out of the 7 games in their section and finished in 6th place.
As was mentioned in last years minutes the AHT trophy will continue in its current format for 2017. Bowls Scotland have proposed a change to the current format to 4 divisions which would be played over a period of 8 weeks so less demand on players commitment, which would then culminate in all the finals being played off at Northfield. Further discussion re the new format will be discussed at a meeting being held at Dunblane B.C. on 26th February 2017. Ayrshire has already put a counter proposal forward.
The Under 25’s who over the last year have seen a number of players move on due to their age now seem to have settled team again and were again among the honours in 2016. They qualified in the Inter County and managed to reach the semi finals. They won the Scottish Cup for the first time and were also beaten finalists in the Renfrewshire Top Ten.
On another bright note three players from the Under 25 team were selected for the Scotland U25 team, so congratulations to John Fleming Jnr (Port Glasgow), Stephen Lowry (Pollokshaws) and Gavin McLauchlan (Anchor).
Michael Stevenson (Gourock Park) and Stephen Lowrie jnr (Pollokshaws) were also selected for the Scotland U17 team.
The under 25’s concluded their season with another successful trip to Cardiff.
So to end the County team input I would like to say a very well done to David Todd and Ian Brown for their success with the Under 25’s in 2016.
Personally I would also like to thank all the clubs that held County games and Under25 games during the season, I am aware of the work that is involved in hosting these games and the Association would like to thank you all for your support in hosting the games.
36 teams entered this year with 1 club failing to turn up on the day. The winners of the County Cup in 2016 were Blacklandmill Bowling Club who won the trophy after a play off against Caledonia B.C. after both clubs finished on the same total +52.
The highest up rink for the Hall Salver went to Wellmeadow B.C.
30 teams entered this competition the winners were Pollokshaws B.C. at plus 31
Winners for the Mr and Mrs J Bell Trophy were Wellington Park B.C. who defeated Priorscroft B.C. in the final at Elderslie Wallace B. C.
Wellington Park will now represent Renfrewshire Bowling Association in the Inter County Top Ten.
Whilst we are on the subject of the Inter county Top Ten, congratulations go to Caledonia Bowling Club, who won the 2016 Inter County Top Ten at Colinton B.C. Where they defeated The Rock B.C. in the Semi Finals and Troon Portland, Paul Foster and all in the Final. This is only the second time that a Renfrewshire club have won this competition, with the last being Blacklandmill in 2000. although Caledonia did lose in the final in 1994.so a big well done to Caledonia B.C. who did the Renfrewshire Bowling Association proud.
Inter County Cup
Renfrewshire Bowling Association won the trophy this year with the highest up Renfrewshire rink being Caledonia B.C.
The Championships are the highlight of the season for a lot of people. May and June are busy months for the cream of our bowlers and it all culminates at the end of June in our Finals day.
The finals were held at Gourock Park bowling club. I think that this would be the first time in he Associations history that the President was cutting the greens at 7 in he morning.
There were 14 different clubs represented in the finals this year.
Well done to all the clubs who played in the finals and also to all of the clubs who gave up their greens and supplied us with facilities, markers and umpires throughout the season.
Also a special mention and thanks to Bob Morrow who organises all the umpires for the semi finals and finals and for all the County games.

On a personal note I would like to thank both Assistant Secretaries David Perrit and Joe Wilson for all their help throughout the season. David has done all the draws for all the cups and ties ably assisted by Roger Black whilst Joe has taken care of the finances.
Thanks to both of you for all your assistance during the year. Also to all the Directors for their assistance and help at all the County games.
Assistant Secretary Joe Wilson confirmed that a copy of the balance sheet had been handed out to all clubs present. The treasurer then went through the balance sheet and explained that although the balance sheet his year was looking healthy, this was down to some Directors and players paying for buses for the AHT games.
The treasurer then suggested that for 2018 there should be an increase in fees and subscriptions. The treasurer suggested the following increase;
Fees to go up £7
Cup games £5
The balance sheet was proposed by Anchor B.C. and seconded by Grosvenor B.C.
Jim Glen spoke on behalf of the auditors and said that the he had met with the treasurer and secretary and had examined all the books and found them all to be in order.

The body of the hall accepted the treasurer Joe Wilson’s proposals with an increase to

He continued that it had been nearly 90 years since Mr A. Shaw of Elderslie held the office of President and we intend to make the most of the opportunity and you will be assured of a warm welcome from us as your hosts on Championship Finals day on the 25th June 2018.
He further stated that it was a great honour for him as he had been involved in the formative years of the under 25’s to playing for the County teams, then taking up the position of Director. It has been an association going back some 20 years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to give something back. This should be a memorable year for my club and I will be working along with the other Directors to ensure our voice is heard and the Association continues to adapt and progress.
